How to Distinguish Fact from Fiction

Learn my 5 questions for filtering out the noise and finding the truth in data.

What's inside?

Data is everywhere- it seems like every consultant, every thought leader, and every coach has some new data to share with you.

This is great news! It means that the nonprofit sector is moving towards evidence-based practices. We are no longer flying by the seat of our pants, throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks, or doing what has always been done.

But... it can also be pretty intimidating (not to mention confusing). There is SO MUCH information out there- it is downright impossible to know what to believe anymore. Especially when experts quote studies that:

  • Contradict each other
  • Are difficult to apply in a REAL nonprofit setting
  • Seem too good to be true

Inside this guide, you'll find examples of five common data problems along with pro-tips for navigating the question: is this information fact or fiction?
